Lahore can be visited all year, but the weather makes a big difference to how much you enjoy walking the old city. Here is what each season is like and when we recommend coming.
The short answer
The most comfortable months are October to March. Days are warm and sunny, evenings are cool, and it is the best time for long walks through the Walled City, the Lahore Fort and the Badshahi Mosque. Within that window, late October to mid-November and February to March are the sweet spots.
October to March: the best season
- October and early November: warm, dry days and clear evenings. A great time for full-day tours and the Wagah Border ceremony.
- Mid-November to January: cool and pleasant, with chilly mornings and nights; January is the coldest month, with night-time lows around 8 °C. Bring a light jacket.
- February and March: spring arrives, gardens such as Shalimar bloom, and the city celebrates the season with Jashn-e-Baharan flower shows.
A note on smog: from roughly November to January, Lahore can have heavy smog on some days, especially in the early morning and evening. Check the air quality forecast before you travel, bring a good face mask if you are sensitive, and keep your plans flexible. We can move outdoor stops to the clearest part of the day.
April to June: the hot season
Temperatures climb quickly from April, and June is the hottest month, with average highs of around 39 °C and some days well above 40 °C. Sightseeing is still possible if you start early in the morning, rest in the middle of the day and go out again in the evening. Our Night Sufi shrine tour and evening bazaar tour are good choices in the heat.
July to September: the monsoon
July is the wettest month. Monsoon showers are usually short and heavy, with hot, humid weather in between. The city turns green, but rain can flood low streets for a few hours. Pack an umbrella, wear sandals that can get wet, and allow some flexibility in your plans.
Festivals and special dates
- Ramadan and Eid: the dates move each year. During Ramadan the city is quieter by day and lively after sunset, and Eid brings holidays and big family celebrations.
- 14 August, Independence Day: flags, lights and crowds, especially at the Wagah Border and around the Minar-e-Pakistan.
- Spring: Jashn-e-Baharan, Lahore's spring festival of flower shows in the city's parks and gardens.
